Flash Lite 3.1 update comes to Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Typically, you expect Flash Lite updates (or updates to pretty much any module that comes bundled with the phone, for that matter) to be delivered via firmware bump -- a long, slow, frustrating process that can take weeks or months across all regions and product codes for a given Nokia model -- but refreshingly, a new version of Flash Lite is now available to 5800 XpressMusic owners by a very different method. The rarely-used App Update mechanism in newer versions of S60 is being used to push out Flash Lite 3.1, which is said to "improve web browsing, " add Flash 9 support, MP3 streaming, and add a host of other goodies -- and perhaps most importantly, YouTube's now more usable. Let's hope the N97 has this out of the gate, eh?

Samsung’s OmniaHD gets high-def unboxing

If watching the N97 crawl out of its Espoo-designed packaging just isn't enough for one day, how's about this? An unlocked Samsung OmniaHD (or i8910, if we're being proper) has found its way into the ever-loving hands of one mareskino, and he was kind enough to unbox the thing on video. Better still, the quality here is second to none, and we'd bet you'll be drooling by the end of it. If you're ready to prove us right / wrong, hop on past the break and mash play.

[Thanks, Curtis]

Nokia Messaging graduates to S60 5th Edition

Well, if you're the proud owner of a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic -- which runs S60 5th edition, in case you don't keep up with that jazz -- you can now join the mobile pioneers using this free -- at least for now, for some -- service. So, if you've never heard of Nokia Messaging, it is an email aggregator that will connect to 10 different webmail accounts and put the mail all in one place on your handset. Nokia Messaging support thousands of email providers, includes support for HTML, Windows Live Hotmail, and can be configured via the app on the phone or from the web. So far, so fantastic, and it is a grand thing when a beta app graduates to the real world. Congrats Nokia, and congrats to all you 5800 owners out there, follow the read to get at it.

LG’s GW520 and GT505 launch brings more touchsceen to the UK

Nothing spells happiness like a couple touchscreen launches, even if they're only landing across the pond. The LG GT505 (pictured left) is a pretty standard slate with some integrated GPS joy -- courtesy of a 30-day WisePilot demo) to help you find your way -- a 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and HSDPA connectivity. The GT505 is a social network-centric set with push updates for your favorite social sites, sparing you the clicks to get the updates manually. The GW520, like the GT5050, is also a social-network affair and packs a 3.2 megapixel camera, 2.8-inch display, HSDPA, and a sliding QWERTY keyboard. The GW520 also has a homescreen that features animated characters that represent the folks you talk to most with quick access to calls, mail, messaging and the like. Both sets launch in June for as of yet undisclosed prices with the GT505 slated to land on Orange and the GW520 arriving on "most UK networks".

Nokia’s N97 unboxed on video — somehow, someway

We always heard that where there is a will, there is a way. Said mantra has never been more exemplified than in the video past the break, as someone halfway across this great planet has seemingly procured what could be the very first shipping N97. Still, we'd like to point out a few things here: first, Nokia has yet to officially ship these things, so there's at least a sliver of a chance that by mashing play, you'll actually be watching a KIRF unboxing, and in turn, supporting terrorism. Also, we can't understand a word the unboxer says, so again, he could be explaining just how elaborate of a fake it is, and we'd never know. Needless to say, you should definitely proceed at your own risk.

Update: Seems another fellow got one, and he's got pictures to prove it.
